I am the Republican candidate for the Board of Weld County Commissioner in District 1.

I am a lifetime resident of Weld County growing up on the farm that my great grandparents homesteaded.  I graduated from Highland High School in 1980 and Colorado State University in 1984 with a BS degree in Ag Business.  Returning to the
family farm west of Ault, I farmed and ranched until 2001. I decided to join forces with my wife of 29 years, Janine, in our current business, J9 Crop Insurance Agency located in Ault.  We have two children, Pete, 27, works for Select Energy Services and Lynsey, 24, who is a Language Assistant in Dijon, France.

I served 8 years on the Highland Weld Re-9 School Board from 1997-2005, the last 6 years as President.  I also served 5 years on the Colorado Association of School Boards (CASB) Board of Directors and was the 2005 CASB President.  I currently serve on the Aims Community College Board of Trustees.  My experience in agriculture and business along with my knowledge of water and property rights added with my experience as an elected official give me the credentials to be the next county commissioner.  Weld County has a tremendous history of local, homegrown leaders that have made this county great and I would like to continue that tradition. I had many opportunities as an elected official to work with constituents with varying points of view to successfully resolve issues that confronted our school district.  At the state level, I interacted with locally elected leaders from across the state and worked with state legislators on issues that affect our greatest asset, Colorado’s children.

We have numerous issues facing our county in the upcoming years and all of them must be dealt with.  However, I would like to focus on three main areas:   1)  Water and the implications it has on agriculture, business and municipalities.  2)  Protecting private property rights.  3)  Growth and its effects on transportation and infrastructure throughout the county.

All of these will be extremely challenging because of the diversity of the residents in Weld County from heavily populated communities to rural agricultural areas.  No matter where you live in Weld County or what you do for a living, your voice should be heard.

I will always be open minded and fair in making these tough decisions that affect all of us and the future of our great county.  I have learned from experience that every issue needs to be evaluated carefully before determining what is in the best interest for all of Weld County.

I would welcome the opportunity to visit with you about these issues or any others that may be of concern. If you believe I am the person to represent you I would be honored by your support and look forward to the opportunity to represent the citizens of Weld County on these and other important issues.

Thank You for Your consideration.
